Important Arrival Information

Must see a Border Force Officer upon arrival and each re-entry during your course for passport stamping.

If eligible for the ePassport gate, no need to see a Border Force Officer.
Ways to Apply
Applying Before You Leave Home

Apply online via the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) website.

Select ‘Short-term study (up to six months)’ if visiting for a course under six months.

Applications can be submitted up to three months before travel. Check processing times and costs.

Carry all visa application documents when entering the UK.
Applying at the UK Border

If you do not need a visa, enter as a visitor at a UK port of entry.

Inform the Border Force Officer of your intent to study for a short course and present required documents.

If using an ePassport gate, present passport and boarding pass at Sussex.
Documents and Evidence

Provide original documents and translations for non-English documents.

Proof of sufficient funds to cover tuition and living expenses is required.

Letter from Sussex confirming study details is needed.

Ensure compliance with the genuine visitor requirement and have relevant documents.
Entry Through the Republic of Ireland, Isle of Man, or Channel Islands

Cannot apply for a standard visitor visa upon arrival if entering via these countries.

Short-Term Study Visa

Duration of Stay
You are permitted to stay in the UK for the duration of your course plus an additional 30 days, with a maximum stay of 11 months.

Visa Fee: £200 for a Short-term Study Visa.
Healthcare Surcharge
